Eighteenth-Century Tall Case Clock Restoration - Part 1
-
EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY TALL CASE CLOCK RESTORATION
This beautiful grandfather tall case clock endured a house fire after more than 200 years of keeping time before the disaster. Scorched, broken, and water-logged many would call it a loss. In the skilled hands of the artisans at Chehaw, restoration was possible.

After gathering the many pieces or veneer and wood fragments, the process of assembling the puzzle begins. New pieces and inlay are fashioned, and traditional hide glue fastening methods are used. After many hours of repair, the clock is ready for refinishing. A hand-rubbed french polish technique is used in keeping with the clock’s age. Today this handsome early American artifact once again shines and stands tall.
